2017 Women’s Retreat (Click here for Photo Album)
The annual OWAC fall retreat was held October 13-14 at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield, Ohio. There were 108 ladies in attendance, representing 14 churches. Congratulations to the following churches for taking home trophies this year: Lighthouse FWB Church (Most First Time Attendees AND Most Present to Member Ratio), and Caanan FWB (Most Ladies in Attendance).
This year’s theme was “The Greatest Gift”. We were blessed to have Izabella McMillon from Samaritan’s purse/Operation Christmas Child with us this year. We had fun celebrating a little bit of Christmas in October! Our music was led by Ohio’s own women from Hillview FWB, Reynoldsburg FWB, and Westerville FWB. They led us in some Christmas carols and praise and worship songs in each service.
Izabella did an amazing job of sharing her story with us about growing up in communist Romania, and about how she came to know the Lord through receiving a shoebox from Operation Christmas Child as a young girl. She captivated the audience, and had a truly amazing and inspiring story. She reminded us that God has given each of us a story, and to be bold in sharing our stories. She also encouraged us to be like the little maid in the story of Naaman (2 Kings, Ch 5); to be forgiving. The person we need to forgive may need to hear about Jesus. The maid could have been bitter with Naaman about taking her from her country and family, but instead she shared Jesus with him. We also heard from Luke 17:11-19 about the ten healed of leprosy, and the one that came back to thank Jesus. Izabella challenged us to not get distracted, but to always keep our focus on the Lord so we can hear “Thy faith hath made thee whole” as the one that came back to thank Jesus heard. What an awesome story God has given to Izabella. If ever given the chance to hear her speak, you don’t want to miss it.
After our prayer groups on Friday, we enjoyed a time of fellowship with building gingerbread houses, and an ugly Christmas sweater contest. On Saturday, our service project consisted of a shoebox packing party. The women of Ohio were able to put together 111 shoeboxes to donate through Operation Christmas Child. We prayed specifically over these boxes for the 111 children that would receive these boxes; that they may feel the love of Christ, and come to know Him. As we learned through Izabella’s story, God knows exactly which box each child needs. We wrapped things up with a Christmas ornament exchange. Each lady brought an ornament and attached their information on the tag. We will pray throughout the year for the woman whose name was on the ornament we received.
We thank God for such a great retreat and for giving us the “Greatest Gift” ever given…his son, Jesus Christ! It is always our prayer for women to leave the retreat feeling refreshed and closer to the Lord. We hope you can join us for next year’s retreat. Mark your calendars for October 11-12, 2018.
We appreciate all of those who attended the OWAC state meeting this year. It was held on June 22, 2017 at Heritage Free Will Baptist Church at 1pm. We enjoyed special speaking this year by Ms. Mallory White who is the Director of Programs and Development for The Hope Center which is a ministry of Free Will Baptist Family Ministries. Mallory spoke on our theme of Praise Him! The greatest reminder we were given that day is that if we do not praise Him the rocks will! We also enjoyed a time of fellowship and productive meeting with each other.
